The Legacy Trail will continue up to the Canmore Nordic Centre with a new link from the Rundle hydro plant. The Legacy Trail currently ends at the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre in Canmore. Through existing multi-use pathways you can get to the TransAlta Rundle hydro plant, where a new multi-use gravel pathway will be built that goes up the hillside to the Canmore Nordic Centre boundary.
Construction Schedule (Updated July 4, 2019)
Work has resumed on the Legacy Trail extension. The stairs at the Rundle Power Plant will remain open (with some temporary closures as needed). The trail beside the stairs and connections to the Georgetown trail will be closed until work is complete. Please obey all signage in the area.
Why Do This
- Create a formal connection that allows users to access the Nordic Centre on multi-use trails from Town.
- Create a trail with reasonable grades that is friendly to all users.
- Provide a trail that will allow for maintenance and upkeep.
- Formalized trailhead near the Rundle Plant will keep users further away from workers in this area.
