Business 2 Business Voucher Program

Town of Canmore has launched a Business 2 Business (B2B) Grant Writing Support to aid a broad range of Canmore-based business owners with the overwhelming task of applying for Federal and Provincial financial aid and grant programs. 

We understand that researching, gathering data and writing applications can be overwhelming, especially when the grants are high stakes, and provide a means of survival for your business.  This is why we have launched this fund to assist with outsourcing this work.  Eligible business owners may apply for funding of up to $1,000 for eligible services.  Translation and interpretive services may also be funded.

Applications will be accepted until June 30 and will be reviewed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Program Details

Program Objectives
•   To provide local businesses with financial assistance to outsource administrative tasks related to completing Federal and Provincial COVID-19 related grant applicationsNon-Government COVID-19 related financial programs may be considered; excluding Town of Canmore programs. 

•   By outsourcing some or all related tasks to professionals in their fields we hope business owners have increased chances for success in their grant applications

•   Reduce barriers to applying for grants programs
Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Businesses:

•    Must be a Canmore-based business and hold a valid Canmore business license 

•    Must have been in business prior to November 30, 2020 

•    Must have a minimum of 2 employees, outside of the business owner(s)

•    Must demonstrate a decrease of revenue by 20%.  See specifics below.  A profit-and-loss (P&L) report demonstrating this decrease is required.  Bank statements are not accepted.  A P&L report may be obtained from your bookkeeper or accountant, or if you wish to generate one yourself, click here for a guide.

•    Existing businesses in operation on or before February 29, 2020 must demonstrate a year-over-year reduction when comparing a month between November 2019 and April 2020 to the same month in the following year. 

•    New businesses that commenced operations between March 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020 must demonstrate a month-over-month revenue reduction when comparing a month between April 2020 to April 2021 to any month between July 2020 and April 2021.

•    Seasonal businesses that only operate for a part of the year must demonstrate a revenue reduction when comparing their average monthly sales revenue for the full months they were in operation during 2019 and their average monthly sales revenue for the full months they were in operating during 2020.


Not Eligible:

•   Non-profits, charities, or community groups

Successful applications that meet the minimum eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. Due to limited budget, not all eligible applicants will receive grant funding. Amount of funds are allocated at the discretion of the Town of Canmore based on available funds, and the scope and nature of the project. Funding decisions made by the Town are final and may not be appealed.

Eligible Service Providers

Outsourcing professional services for the purpose of assisting businesses in completing grant applications related to COVID-19 recovery.  Examples of such professions include: 

  • Grant-writer 
  • Administrative professionals 
  • Accountant or Bookkeeper 
  • (ESL) Interpreter and/or Translator  

 

Preference is for service providers to be local, where possible.  Town of Canmore would verify that service providers have a valid Canmore business license. 


Eligible Expenses and Services

Approved funding may be used on the following eligible services/tasks:

·         Collection of business information and supporting documents required for any Federal or Provincial COVID-19 related grant*

·         Completion of grant application(s)

·         ELS Interpretive and/or translation services to aid in this pr 

·         Completion of final reports to the grant funder

*Non-Government COVID-19 related financial programs may be considered, excluding Town of Canmore programs.   If you wish to find programs available for your business, situation, and area of support, click here 

Ineligible costs or expenses include but are not limited to:

·         General accounting and bookkeeping services related to regular business operations 

·         Contractor travel, accommodation, meals 

·         Expenses paid or contracts entered into prior to the approval of B2B funding  

·         Use of specialized services for business activity unrelated to the application for grant programs

·         Personal use of specialized services 

Funding must be spent, and approved services must be rendered by December 31, 2021.  Any unused portion of awarded funds to be returned in full to Town of Canmore.

When is the application deadline?

How Do I Prepare for My Application?

Please prepare information related to the following prior to beginning your application.  It is not possible to save your application and return to complete at another time.

·        Applicant’s contact information
·        Business information
·         Number of employees not including business owner
·        Corporate Structure: e.g. sole proprietor, franchise, corporation etc.
·         Profit and Loss Report. Bank statements are not accepted.
·         COVID-19 related financial supports applied for
·         COVID-19 related financial supports successfully obtained
·         Indicate the greatest barrier(s) to applying
·         Intended use of funds

I got conditionally approved – now what? 

Once conditionally approved, the eligible businesses must:

1.          Submit a quote for the approved services by the date indicated in your decision letter

2.          Sign a funding agreement with the Town of Canmore

3.          Town of Canmore to release funds directly to applicant/business as indicated in the funding agreement

Funding applications will be assessed to the maximum dollar value, and businesses will be responsible for any additional costs outside of that approved amount. 

Do I have to use a professional service within the Bow Valley? 
We strongly recommend that recipients of this program use Canmore-based professional services to support our local economy, but we understand that not all required services are available locally.  
I successfully received my services. What reporting do I have to do?

Submit the final achievement report to Economic Development via email.  The report template would have been sent to you with your funding agreement; however, if you need a new copy, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

This report will include:

·         What was achieved through the B2B funding and how it impacted your business
·         Receipts and invoices for eligible costs and expenses

The report is due after services have been rendered or by Jan. 31, 2022, whichever comes first.

Can I reapply for funding?

Successful applicants may not re-apply for additional funding via the B2B Grant Writing Support.
