Once you have read the "Vacation Rental Information" and planning confirms your location is eligible for a vacation rental, please download the business licence application pdf here (143 KB) . *If you are a local resident applying for your licence, please also include proof of residency of your local home address with your application. This can be in the form of a Driver's Licence, Government Official ID, tax or utility bill, or lease agreement. Or if you are on title of a local property, no proof is required. 

Home Occupation Class 2 Licence Information & Application

Cost: $130 or $32.50 if you declare you expect to make less than $30,000 in gross annual revenue this year (sign declaration on back of application)

Apply for a Commercial Licence by Submitting:

Home-Based Business Classification:

There are two types of home-based businesses; Class 1 and Class 2. Class 1 is described as an accessory use of a dwelling unit by a resident for a small scale business, and is essentially invisible to neighbours. Class 2 is described as a business that may be more obvious to neighbours, and therefore requires a Development Permit. To determine which classification applies to your business, please see the following questions:

  • Do you have clients or customers coming to your home?
  • Do you have employees coming to your home?
  • Will the business receive deliveries?
  • Do you manufacture or produce goods in your home?
  • Do you store materials and equipment or park trailers/commercial vehicles on site?
  • Are you a bed and breakfast?

Home Occupation Class 2 Licence

Apply for Development Permit with Planning (403) 678 1543 by submitting the following:

  • $270 for first year (application fee + 1 year fee)
    • $200 for a 3 year renewal after your first year
  • Certificate of title (get from province when you buy the property)
  • If you do not own the property, get consent from the landlord and request that they send in the certificate
  • Floor Plan (Dependant on business type)
  • Lot plan to show where parking will go (if having people come to your house)
