Alberta is preparing for dry conditions this year, and we need to be ready for potential water shortages. There are times when The Town of Canmore may need to call on our community to temporarily reduce non-essential outdoor water use.
What You Need to Know
In alignment with other regional municipalities, we are launching a mandatory outdoor water restrictions program that will come into effect in the event of a water shortage to ensure that there is enough water to meet our essential needs, including water for drinking and fighting fires, as well as to support our neighbours and river health.
There are four stages of restrictions that apply to non-essential outdoor water use based on the severity of the shortage, with some exemptions for health and safety reasons or for core business needs.
What You Need to Do
- Take action when outdoor water restrictions are declared.
- Find out what restriction stage is in place. Outdoor water restrictions will be announced through our website, social media, and local media outlets.
- Understand how and when you can use water outdoors. Depending on the water restriction stage, understand what mandatory actions to take.
- Stay informed.
- Follow us on Facebook at @townofcanmore
- Sign up for direct updates with Voyent Alert, our direct to call, text, or email notification service
- Use water wisely, even when mandatory restrictions aren’t in place. Not only will you be protecting our water security and the environment, but you may see a reduction in your utility bill too!
