We will be conducting water main flushing in Larch, Teepee Town, Downtown, and South Canmore as part of routine maintenance from approximately April 28 to May 9, 2025, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. During this time, you may notice crews and equipment in the community.
What is it?
Water main flushing is widely used by municipalities to effectively clean pipes, water mains and water distribution systems to deliver safe drinking water.
What to Expect
Before Flushing: “No Parking” signs will be placed in planned areas two or three days prior to flushing. Please respect these signs to avoid disruption to the work or damage to equipment.
During Flushing: You may notice cloudy water or changes in water pressure while fire hydrants near you are being flushed. Water moving through your pipes has been treated and is safe to use.
After flushing: After flushing, we recommend running your outside water tap for about 5 minutes or until the water runs clear. This helps ensure any remaining sediment is cleared from your pipes.
What you need to know
- If you experience any discolouration, run the bathtub or shower cold water tap for 30 minutes until the water clears. If the discoloration does not clear after 30 minutes at the end of the service day (8 p.m.), contact EPCOR for assistance at 403.609.6400.
- Your water won't be turned off, and you'll continue to receive uninterrupted water service to your home.
- Flushing does not affect your water bill.
Fun fact! We are using a zero-water-loss process called “no-discharge" that doesn’t involve discharging water from a fire hydrant. Instead, crews will recirculate water via a filter unit back to the distribution grid for 1-2 days before moving on to the next site.
Crews will be working as efficiently as possible to complete this work and minimize impacts on our community. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this essential maintenance activity.
