Town of Canmore

Lions Park Playground Replacement

The Lions Park playground has reached the end of its lifespan and will be replaced in 2023.

The existing playground will be removed and replaced with a brand-new wheelchair accessible and inclusive playground. The playground will be moved to a new location, to accommodate the expansion of the tennis courts, along the north side of the soccer field (see photo below for location).

Inclusive Playground

An inclusive play space is universally designed where children of all abilities can play with a rich range of physical, sensory, and social experiences. It is a place that goes beyond minimum accessibility requirements to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. The space allows all children and adults of all abilities to interact with each other and do what everyone wants to do: PLAY!

As Canmore's first fully inclusive play space, we switched our normal playground selection process. Instead of allowing the community as a whole to vote on the winning design, we worked with Rocky Mountain Adaptive to select the winning design.

Winning Design

The winning design was from Blue Imp, you can download the full design pdf here (2.39 MB) or see an overview photo below.

Timelines
