The Canmore Town Centre Master Plan (TCMP) is a 20-year road map to guide the planning and development of a vibrant and connected downtown community that supports social vibrancy, community connection, a diversity of thriving businesses, well organized built forms and beautification of its physical environment.
We will craft a 20-year vision and roadmap that guides the planning and development of Canmore’s Town Centre.
The plan will build upon the foundation of the existing, but out-dated, Town Centre Enhancement Plan (1998). It will look for creative solutions to foster a complete downtown community that supports social vibrancy, community connection, thriving businesses, well-organized built forms, and beautification of its physical environment.
The TCMP will align with parallel long-term planning processes for the Town of Canmore, define a new vision for the Town Centre, confirm the scope of the planning area, and will provide an outline of a realistic and cohesive implementation strategy.
Canmore is a growing community with a thriving tourism economy. Its natural environment, recreational opportunities, and welcoming atmosphere attract residents who call Canmore home, along with visitors on weekends and during peak seasons who want to experience the beauty of our mountain town.
The Town Centre is at the heart of our community, both geographically and culturally. The vibrancy of the Town Centre contributes to the livability of the community and the attraction of innovative and entrepreneurial residents and visitors. But a new roadmap is needed to keep up with the pace of change. The Town of Canmore is currently operating from a 20-year old plan that was completed in 1998 when Canmore’s population was 10,000 residents. Since then, the community and the level of visitation have grown substantially. A new plan is needed to guide the vision of the Town Centre into the future.
Through ongoing engagement and feedback, the project team will seek to understand the public’s concerns and aspirations for the TCMP, so they are understood and considered in the plan.
Our commitment to the community
- We will inform community members about the TCMP process and how they can participate and provide feedback.
- We will consult with community members on the options developed as a result of the input and provide feedback on how this public input influenced the overall decision.
