Town of Canmore

Transportation Planning - Get Involved

It will take a number of years for our transportation network to evolve and there will be many projects along the way that we will need the public’s help with. We will be looking for your input as we design and implement transportation projects. Designs are better and more effective when they reflect knowledge and input from stakeholders.

We want your feedback on three separate future roadway projects: Railway Avenue, Bow Valley Trail and Teepee Town. Although separate projects it is important to do the initial information gathering phase together to look for synergies and common themes. More information on each project is available at the bottom of this page.

Get Involved

Thank you for providing your feedback on these corridors. A summary of what we heard will be available in late August.

*At the conclusion of this phase of engagement concept designs will be developed for Railway Avenue. We expect to have these designs in the fall of 2018, at which point we will be looking for your help in refining the designs.*

Railway Avenue

Railway Avenue is due for rehabilitation work and at the same time we will be looking at a key transportation corridor to make sure that it aligns with the values set out in the Integrated Transportation Plan. The phasing of the work will depend on the final designs and may not all be implemented at one time, this is something that will be flushed out as we move through the design process. Some of the goals for this project include:

  • Enable a greater range of transportation options and opportunities for residents and visitors
  • Apply a functional and recognizable street design that accommodates all modes (walking, cycling, transit, goods movement, private passenger vehicles)
  • Best practice guidelines for street design that will enable 40% non-vehicular travel at peak times (summer, long weekends) (30% in winter months)
  • Increased focus on moving traffic and goods around the Town Centre, and people into the Town Centre and allow for greater activation of Main Street

Timelines

  • June 2018 - Phase one of engagement
  • Summer 2018 - Develop concept designs
  • Fall 2018 - Phase two of engagement - refine concept designs

Bow Valley Trail

As one of Canmore's main transportation routes an updated concept road design needs to be developed for future implementation that aligns with the values set out in the Integrated Transportation Plan.

Timelines

  • June 2018 - Phase one of engagement
  • The timing for the next stage of this project including concept design development is yet to be determined

Teepee Town

Teepee Town is also due for a variety of rehabilitation work and a new concept road design for future implementation. The area has numerous connections into Bow Valley Trail and we want to make sure that we are considering how people move in this whole corridor when looking at main travel routes in the area.

Timelines

  • June 2018 - Phase one of engagement
  • The timing for the next stage of this project including concept design development is yet to be determined
