The 2018 capital budget has allocated funding for the installation of a solar system on the Waste Management Centre. The Waste Management Centre was identified as being in an ideal location for solar power and the proposed system is projected to generate half of the power required to operate the facility each year, which is 67,470 kWhs. This would result in an estimated GHG emissions savings of 1,295 tonnes over the life of the system.
The cost estimates show that it would take approximately 20 years for the savings to pay for the cost of installation. For more information click here and see item G2 of the council agenda package.
