Election Workers

The Town of Canmore will be accepting applications by the end of July for municipal election workers. 

We'll be looking for about 20 people interested in working at the 2017 general municipal election on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Coast Hotel.

We also have an opportunity for one or two election workers to work at the advance elections, dates to be announced.

Job Description: Deputy Returning Officers
The deputy returning officers are mainly responsible for registering voters: verifying voter identification, explaining and administering voter statements, explaining how to complete a ballot, and issuing ballots to qualified electors.

We will require at least one of the deputy returning officers to assist voters with inserting their voted ballots into the vote tabulator. This person will be required to stand for long periods of time.

Job Description: Greeter/Security
We need at least one person to keep traffic moving, directing voters to the registration tables and then on to the voting booth. The greeter will also be keeping an eye on proceedings to make sure everyone is following the rules, and will report any problems to the returning officer. The greeter may also be required to assist elderly and handicapped voters. The person in this position will be required to stand for long periods of time.


  • At least 18 years of age,
  • Not related to any candidate,
  • Patient and friendly,
  • Basic arithmetic skills,
  • Available to attend a training session (date TBA), and
  • Available to work Monday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
