A Pathway to a Resilient, Zero-Emission Future
The Committee of the Whole heard details about the proposed Climate Emergency Action Plan that outlines a climate-ready future for Canmore with a roadmap to address key climate hazards while enhancing our community’s resilience and well-being. Feedback from over 300 residents informed the plan that will come before Council on July 2 for approval. Housing Action - Permanent Resident Tax Program
Committee of the Whole was presented with an update on the key actions required to implement a Permanent Resident Tax Program, one of the key bold actions to address our housing crisis. Empty and infrequently occupied housing contributes to Canmore’s housing crisis by removing potential long-term rental units from the market. Incentives to occupy housing units full-time by the owner or by long-term tenants can directly impact the housing crisis.

Council Remuneration Committee Recommendations
The Council Remuneration Committee was struck by Council in 2023, with a goal of analyzing and making recommendations to Council regarding the Council Remuneration Policy. The work of Council is critically important to the community. Increased levels of engagement from the community have resulted in greater accountability and responsibility in the role of elected officials. Compensation should not be a barrier to residents running for office and to attracting a diverse slate of candidates.
The Committee made several recommendations, you can read them all in today's Special Meeting agenda package item #H-1 here: Council Meetings: Town of Canmore. Council accepted the recommendations and directed administration to update the policy. The recommendations will not come into effect until after the next municipal election.
