It is with disappointment that we meet the new policies introduced by the Government of Alberta affecting the rights and freedoms of transgender and non-binary youth.
In Canmore, we pride ourselves on being a community that is welcoming and a home to all, regardless of gender identity. The strength of Canmore is bolstered by the bravery of each person who lives their life with authenticity, especially those whose voices are often silenced, marginalized, and discriminated against. In moments of darkness and challenge, it can be hard to feel seen for who you are and who you want to be. In these moments, let me reassure you that you are not alone. The Town of Canmore and I stand proudly alongside you. Your light makes Canmore and this world a better place. I see you.
Words of support are important, but action is also critical. We are flying the Pride flag as an outward and visible sign of solidarity, and in honour of everyone in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We continue to ensure that our public spaces are safe spaces for everyone. We will continue to work on and identify the ways in which we can promote and improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in our programs, supports, and services.
We will not be deterred in our ongoing efforts to provide every one of us with the dignity and safety we each deserve.
