Seniors' Week 2024

Seniors are the heart of the community in Canmore. In honour of the past, present, and future contributions of Canmore seniors, the Town of Canmore along with our community partners are celebrating Seniors’ Week from June 3-9. This week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the importance of seniors in our community and all they do to help make Canmore a wonderful place to live, work and play. We invite all adults 55-64 and seniors 65+ to join in the week's events of fun, connection, and learning. All events are free!

Seniors' Week in Canmore is made possible by the following organizations and partners: artsPlace, Origin at Spring Creek, Bow Valley Primary Care Network, Canmore Public Library, Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre, Bow Valley Regional Housing, and the Canmore Museum

Aquafit

Aquafit is an ideal exercise for older adults because it incorporates cardio, muscle conditioning, and flexibility exercises. The water can be used to offer a variety of intensity levels that is right for you.

This session is drop in, and first come, first served. Please check in at the Elevation Place Customer Experience desk when you arrive.

Movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Join us for free popcorn and a movie! The Curious Case of Benjamin Button tells the extraordinary life story of a man who ages in reverse.

Intro to Pilates

Experience mat-based Pilates with this gentle full body workout. Pilates is a great way for older adults to strengthen and tone their arms, core, and legs.

This session is drop in & first come first served. Please check in at the Elevation Place Customer Experience desk when you arrive.

2 - 3 p.m. at Origin Spring Creek

Dementia & the Healthy Brain

What is dementia and how can we reduce our risk factors? Join this session hosted by Origin Spring Creek and gain an understanding of what dementia is and what is going on beneath the surface. We will identify some of the risk factors for developing the disease and how we can promote a strong and healthy brain throughout aging.

Lace up your skates and join us on the ice for a free skate!

Communicate to Connect

In this workshop presented by the Bow Valley Primary Care Network, you will learn strategies to foster connections and communicate when things get tough. Discover ways to manage and share your feelings to connect with people in your life in a meaningful way.

Tech Tips

Want a tutorial on how to use your new tablet? Not sure how to sign up for Facebook? Looking to learn how to convert files? Drop in and bring any and all questions about technology to the library, and they’ll try their best to answer them with you!

Thursday, June 6 2 - 3:30 p.m. at Rotary Friendship Park

Ice Cream Social and Resource Fair 

The Town of Canmore invites seniors ages 65 and older to join us for a free ice cream bar and to learn more about FCSS seniors’ programs and services, as well as other community resources.

Town of Canmore Emergency Management will be there with information on how to prepare yourself for emergencies and will help you sign up for Voyent Alert, the Town of Canmore's emergency alerting system.

Municipal Enforcement officers will be there to answer your questions about paid parking, how to use the Blinkay parking app, and how to sign up for the app.

The Library will be handing out free books and you can go for a short demo ride on the Cycling Without Age trishaws. We hope you can join us!

Workshop: Is it a Scam?

This workshop presented by the Bow Valley Adult Learner Centre will help you feel more confident in being able to recognize scam or phishing texts, emails, and phone calls and how to safely handle them.
