Council Approves Three Sisters Village and Smith Creek Area Structure Plans

Council approved the Three Sisters Village and Smith Creek Area Structure Plans (ASPs). Council also adopted consequential amendments to the Municipal Development Plan related to the ASPs.

The Court of Appeal of Alberta dismissed the Town of Canmore’s appeal of the decisions of the Land and Property Rights Tribunal (LPRT) that ordered the Town to adopt the ASPs.

The Town will not attempt to appeal the decision of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC).  The Town agreed with Three Sisters Mountain Village Properties Limited (TSMVPL) not to attempt further appeals if its appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed as part of an agreement to adjourn a separate court application brought by TSMVPL to compel the Town to adopt the ASPs (an application for “mandamus”).  The Court of Appeal decision also provides no reasonable prospect of obtaining leave to appeal to the SCC.

Annual Organizational Meeting

Council also held its Annual Organizational Meeting. At the meeting Council confirmed its meeting schedule for the year, Deputy Mayor schedule, and appointed members of the public to committees.
