Housing Action - Council Still Considering Palliser Trail Area Structure Plan
Following a thoughtful public hearing, Council opted to postpone a decision on the Palliser Trail Area Structure Plan until the Nov. 7, 2023 Council meeting to allow them more time to consider questions raised by stakeholders and the public to ensure the final project is designed in such a way that it is intentional, feasible, and maximizes benefits and mitigates impacts for affected parties.
This is a bold plan led by the Town of Canmore — one that has the potential to create a complete, walkable, mixed-use, and sustainable community capable of offering up to 1,000 non-market units that can meet the needs of residents. For details, visit the Palliser ASP project webpage.
Paid Parking Update
Administration provided a comprehensive review of the first year of operation in the Town Centre, reviewed feedback received by the Downtown Canmore BIA, residents, and staff, and provided clarity on how program changes are considered and made.
Council considered a new Paid Parking Revenue Allocation Model, ultimately deciding to delay the decision, and referred it to the Finance Committee as part of 2024 budget amendment discussions.
Council also:
- Accepted the 2022 Utility Master Plan for planning purposes.
- Directed administration to prepare an Election Sign Bylaw that restricts municipal election signage to private property, except for four public property locations recommended by administration, where a candidate may place one sign.
- Updated the Public Art Policy to include a Micro Grant Program.
