The Process

From submit to success:

Apply

Select the role that you believe is the best fit for yourself and your career. Don’t forget to check the requirements before you submit, as each role may have different ones.

When you apply, you will be asked to submit a resume and a cover letter.

  • The resume is meant to capture your past education, skills, and experiences that demonstrate your ability to perform the core job functions.
  • The cover letter is meant to capture who you are. This is an opportunity for you to tell us what excites you about the role and the organization, what you will bring as an employee, and to answer the questions outlined in the job posting.

Initial call

Depending on the role, we may set up a 15–30 minute phone or virtual conversation with a recruiter or hiring manager, where you can ask questions and tell us about why you are interested in the role.

This is also where we will have an initial conversation to gather your understanding of the role and your previous experience. We will also cover key aspects of the role like hours and schedule, pay, work environment, and benefits.

Interview

The interview is designed to help us get to know you.

You're more than just the accomplishments on your resume. The interview is a conversation where we'll cover your professional and personal experience so far. You can expect us to ask questions that touch on these five topics:

  1. Motivation - What motivated you to apply for the role and how does it fit into your life and career goals?
  2. Skills and experience - Do you have the skills or potential to do the job you’re applying for?
  3. Respect and Integrity - Are you able to communicate respectfully with others, and do you have a history of building trust and acting with integrity in your work?
  4. Service - Are you committed to a high level of service to the community, organization, environment, and visitors that we serve?
  5. Teamwork - Are you collaborative, open to feedback, and dedicated to the success of your team over your individual success?

After a round of questions, the hiring manager might ask if you have any questions about the position or company. This is your opportunity to get clarity about anything, express your interest in the role, and show that you’ve done your research on the Town of Canmore. In essence, this is a great way to show the hiring manager how interested you are in working for them.

In the interview, the most important piece is that we want to get to know you, not a version of you that you think we are looking for.

Reference Checks and Background Check

If you are the top candidate for the role, the Town of Canmore will conduct formal reference checks and a background check prior to offering the position.

Reference Checks: You will be asked to provide 2-3 references who can speak to your past work experiences. These should be someone who directly managed you in a previous role.

Background Checks: The Town of Canmore will conduct a Standard Criminal Record Check as a requirement for employment prior to an offer of employment.

Decision

Once all interviews and background checks are completed, the hiring manager will reach out to you to let you know the decision that has been made. Whether you are selected as the final candidate or not, the Town of Canmore is dedicated to informing you of the final decision.
