Meet the Candidates

Meet the Candidates Running in the 2025 Municipal Election

Candidates for Mayor

Sean Krausert was elected Mayor of Canmore in October 2021, having previously been elected to Council twice. He and his spouse, Janet, have lived in Canmore since 1996 and raised their family here. Sean's professional experience includes being a lawyer, a social justice advocate, and businessman having held various executive level positions in the not-for-profit, for-profit, and public sectors.

Sean envisions Canmore as a thriving, authentic mountain community for generations to come, including: building more non-market housing to address our housing crisis, co-existing with the natural beauty and wildlife around us, implementing extensive wildfire mitigation and emergency planning, nurturing an inclusive community, encouraging a vibrant arts community, fostering a strong economy, increasing public transit, and seeking reconciliation with our Indigenous neighbours on whose traditional lands we live.

Sean is deeply passionate about Canmore . . . and he will continue to ALWAYS act in the best interests of the community as a whole.

Learn more about Sean and his platform at seankrausert.ca.  Further, feel free to ask Sean questions at seankrausert@gmail.com.

I have been a Canmore resident since 1963 when our family arrived from Scotland.  After graduating from Canmore High School, I attended post secondary school in Lethbridge, before making my way into the working world pursuing a career in Conservation Enforcement.

In 1991 I returned full time to Canmore and raised my family here.  I gradually established a full-service security agency which is still operating in Canmore.  More recently I returned to school and obtained my certification as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant.  During this time, I was elected to Council in 2007 and served until 2012.  In 2013 I was re-elected to Council serving until 2017.

I believe that the experience that I am bringing with my candidacy will benefit Canmore residents.  I have lived through the evolution of our community and remain committed to improving quality of life in our town.  Canmore residents’ comforts, conveniences and the struggles they face living here have been overlooked.  If I’m elected, addressing this will be my main priority.

We live in a beautiful place enjoyed by the many visitors who come here.

With a strong council leadership we can Make Canmore Even Better.

Candidates for Council

I love the town of Canmore and its people, this is the best, and the most beautiful place in Canada in which to live. I was born and raised in Toronto where I graduated from High school and attended Tyndale University. For 25 years I owned a small home based business where I wholesaled prepaid phone cards across Canada. For my business I was always debt free, I knew how to budget, and to live within my means. My wife of 17 years and I were fortunate enough to buy a condominium in Canmore in 2014 with the dream of settling down here. We are in need of affordable housing, but property taxes have been rising above the rate of inflation, and this is counterproductive to affordable living. I believe one of the best ways to make Canmore more affordable is to minimize, or possibly reduce property taxes, and provide a lower tax base for affordable housing projects in exchange for a reduction in market value housing. I also believe growth should be sustainable, with downtown parking and mobility maintained. If elected, I promise I will work hard using a commonsense approach to help make Canmore more affordable, transparent, to live within our budgetary means, and to keep Canmore the most beautiful, and the best place in Canada in which to live for the pleasure, health, and long term wellbeing for us all, thank-you,

 Jonathan W Hazzard

I am a family man, business owner and passionate Canmorite. Whether I’m out on the trails, or teaching yoga, I am always struck by how lucky I am to be here.

My vision of Canmore is one of kindness, diversity and inclusivity. Where a thriving middle class can set down roots and make this place even better.

The previous four years have been pivotal for Canmore. Serious issues such as livability, emergency preparedness and the social fabric of our community were at a tipping point. I’ve worked hard, and I’m particularly proud of:

  • Revamping Canmore Community Housing. The Ptarmigan Pointe project is nearly finished, and we just started 100 Palliser Lane: a 144 unit rental building.
  • Emergency response: Implementing the Voyent Alert App.
  • Bringing in the Livability Tax to help accelerate housing projects for locals.
  • Guiding the Connect Downtown plan to shape a better downtown for future generations
  • Paving the West Bow River Pathway for year round commuting.

Yes, we are in a better place - but we have more to do. Challenging times call for focused, intelligent leadership that is willing to take risks to execute a bold vision. With one term completed, I have a heightened understanding of Canmore’s wicked problems - and I am keen to leverage that knowledge to serve you.

Let’s go!
Jeff

Canmore is home, and my husband and I have been full-time residents for more than 20 years. Before moving to Canmore, I grew up and lived in Calgary. I was a “part-timer” and spent weekends and summers in my family’s Canmore townhouse that my grandpa purchased in 1983 and is still lovingly used by my grandpa and his wife, my parents, my brother, my aunt, my uncle, and their families.

My first job in town was at Beamer’s Coffee Bar, and I have lived downtown, in Three Sisters, in Teepee Town, in Spring Creek, and in Silvertip. I’ve lived in staff accommodation, I’ve rented, and I’ve owned.

I am a business owner, and work in strategic planning, professional communications, and leadership as a consultant, facilitator, and as a faculty member. I have a Doctor of Education in leadership, a Master of Education in adult, community, and higher education, and a Journalism Arts Diploma in print media.

I sit on the Town of Canmore’s Assessment Review Board and have been a member of the Tourism Canmore Kananaskis board, the Canmore Council Remuneration Review Committee, and the Education Beyond Borders board.

As a councillor, I am committed to ensuring there is accountability, protecting our environment, supporting local businesses, strengthening our community, and creating housing solutions.

I’ve called Canmore home for over a decade, often working multiple jobs just to stay in the community I love. Along the way, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges around housing, affordability, and cost of living, as well as the power of community when people come together to support each other. Today, I work with a program that helps immigrants settle into our communities and I also work part-time at Save-On-Foods. These frontline roles give me a clear view of what residents are facing every day. For me, it’s simple: the people who keep Canmore running should be able to afford to live here full time and call this place home.

My Priorities

  • Livability – A community where frontline workers, families, and seniors can live and thrive.
  • Environment & Wildlife – Protecting the land, wildlife, and natural beauty that make Canmore unique.
  • Inclusion & Equity – Ensuring every voice is heard and everyone feels a true sense of belonging.
  • Truth & Reconciliation – Honouring Indigenous voices and building respectful, lasting relationships.
  • Action-Oriented Leadership – Moving beyond words to deliver practical solutions for residents.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Strengthening wildfire and flood readiness to keep our community safe.

Let’s work together for #OneCanmore.  A community that’s connected, caring, and sustainable. Local government works best when it reflects the people it serves.

For over two decades I woke up the Bow Valley as the Morning Show Host on 106.5 Mountain FM.  I was proud to serve my community in this way, and now I'm feeling the call to serve it in another way - as a member of Canmore's municipal government.

Canmore has changed a lot in the nearly 24 years since I first moved here!  But the beating heart of our community still exists.  I see and feel it every time I attend a show at artsPlace, or take in the Canmore Folk Fest, or step on stage with the Pine Tree Players. As a Councilor I will continue to work to amplify our community's heartbeat.

We certainly have some challenges when it comes to maintaining community cohesion, the biggest one being affordability. People who work in this community should be able to afford to live here.  As a member of the Board of Directors for Canmore Community Housing for the past six years, the last three of those as Board Chair, I'm keenly aware of both the successes and challenges when it comes to building non-market housing for locals, and will be a strong advocate for continuing to create attainable housing solutions.

Communication. Collaboration.  Community.  Find out more about me and my platform by listening to my "Rob Murray - Your Voice on Canmore Council" podcast, available everywhere podcasts are streamed.  You can also visit my website:

Or connect with me via email at robmurrayforcanmore@outlook.com.  I'd love to hear about your experience living in Canmore and ideas you might have for a bright future for our special town!

Rob Seeley is a two-term Canmore Town Councillor and long-time community leader with more than 25 years of active involvement in local initiatives. He brings a proven record of collaboration, experience, and integrity.

A resident of Canmore since the early 1990s, Rob established and ran a small business here for nearly three decades, employing local people and contributing to the community’s economic vibrancy. He continues to serve as a dedicated volunteer, including his recent role as President of the Rotary Club of Canmore (2024–2025).

Rob is passionate about building a strong, inclusive future for Canmore. He has been a consistent advocate for attainable housing—personally building a Canmore Community Housing Vital Homes suite in his own home—and he continues to support initiatives that give residents and families the opportunity to thrive locally. His focus on responsible growth, housing, and community engagement reflects his belief that Canmore’s future must balance progress with protection of the small-town character and natural environment that make it unique.

With a deep understanding of both municipal governance and community needs, Rob is committed to working collaboratively with residents, businesses, and council colleagues to ensure decisions reflect the best interests of Canmore today and for generations to come.
