EV Charger Incentive Program Application Form

Electric vehicles (EVs) reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic noise while improving local air quality. To make EV charging more accessible, we’re offering incentives to install publicly available Level 2 EV chargers in commercial or multi-family parking lots.

How the EV Public Charger Program Works

The incentive covers 75% of the cost to install a publicly available Level 2 charger, up to $10,000. A Level 2 charger uses 240-volt AC electricity, providing an average of 30 km of range per hour of charge.

Eligibility:

  • Commercial parking lots that would make chargers available for all customers and employees.
  • Multi-family buildings that would make chargers available to all residents (not in someone’s titled stall).

Application Information:

  • A quote from an electrician is required with the application.
  • Installation and electrical inspection must be completed by Dec. 15, 2025.
  • The incentive does not apply to retroactive projects.
  • If applications exceed available funding, recipients who meet the requirements will be selected by lottery. There may be a limit of one charger per property.

Apply by 4 p.m. MST on March 31, 2025.

Proposed EV Charging Approach

We may limit applicants to one charger each if demand exceeds available funding.

We strongly recommend that the charger be user-pay.

Depending on the location of the electricity source, the installation work can be much more expensive than the charger.

Projects must be complete by Dec.15, 2025.

Terms and Conditions

1. The incentive is 75% of the total cost to a maximum of $10,000. The final incentive amount will be calculated once the infrastructure has been installed and invoices have been provided.

2. Eligible costs include the charging unit, permit fees, installation infrastructure and work, signage and bollards (if required).

3. The incentive is not retroactive for existing installations.

4. For multi-family buildings, applications should be submitted by the condo board or building owner. All residents must be able to access the charger. This is not for an individual EV owner with a titled stall or those with their own garage. We will prioritize larger multi-family buildings/developments.

5. For commercial parking lots, all EV driving customers and employees must be able to access the charger. It can’t be reserved for specific people.

6. The stall cannot be shared with conventional gas-powered vehicles. It must be clearly signed with “EV only while charging”.

7. You must ensure that the required number of visitor and accessible parking spaces in your development are maintained.

8. User-pay chargers are best practice for public charging and are strongly recommended for this program. User-pay chargers are more expensive, and providers typically charge annual network access fees and keep a portion of the charging revenue. They also require routine maintenance. Ensure that you are aware of all ongoing costs.

9. The infrastructure must be installed between April 15 and Dec.15, 2025.

10. All applicants will be notified of the lottery results by April 15.

11. If you are selected for an incentive and decide not to proceed, you must notify the Town immediately so that the incentive can go to someone on the waitlist.

12. The incentive will be provided by electronic funds transfer (EFT) or mailed cheque after the installation is complete and the following documents are received by the Town. They need to be emailed to sustainability@canmore.ca by Dec. 15, 2024:

a. all paid invoices for the charger and installation, with costs itemized.
b. a copy of the electrical permit and the final electrical inspection report.
c. copy of a void cheque (if you would like to receive payment by EFT).

13. All projects must meet building and electrical safety code requirements and permitting requirements. All electrical systems must be CSA or ULC approved for installation in Canada.
